PROTECTING OUR CHILDREN.
The Catholic Archdiocese of Sydney Safeguarding Office provides support and training for parish communities to ensure that our communities offer a safe and caring environment. Safeguarding Children Procedures at St Benedict Broadway in response to the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse, the Archdiocese of Sydney has developed procedures and protocols to safeguard our children.

These procedures and protocols include the following:

  1. Every ‘volunteer’ must obtain a Working With Children Check (‘WWCC’). By logging on to https:// www.service.nsw.gov.au/transaction/apply-working-children-check
A ‘volunteer’ includes people assisting with Eucharistic Ministry, Catechists, Music Ministry, Mass Readings, Flower arranging, and any other regular activities whilst on the church properties.
  2. Once you receive this number you will need to give your WWCC number and Date of Birth to the parish office to be verified.
  3. All volunteers will then be asked to attend an induction session face to face or online.
  4. Finally, the volunteer will be asked to sign an Code of Conduct for Working with Children.

Matthew Ramirez is our Parish Safeguarding Support Officer (PSSO); and can be contacted via the parish office on 9660 1407or [email protected] for any help in these procedures.
If any volunteer needs help with WWCC the parish can help you with this.

While we understand that some may find the process demanding, we are all committed to providing a safe environment for our children.
